Love the ideas!!!

I let Carla know about the Spaghetti, rolls, Salad, and I'll tell her know you'd like to do brownies or cookies (a normal treat!) for dessert. At the other dinners we did a "decorate your own cupcake" bar. We had chocolate or vanilla cupcakes, different colors of frosting, and different colors of sugar and sprinkles. That's just another idea for a dessert that doubles as an activity.

I love the idea of having one big group activity, like "Follow the Leader," that everyone can take part in for a few minutes. Then, I love how you all want the matches and the parents to be able to do something individually. The idea of board games is always helpful and I like the ideas of riddles and basketball/gym activities.

I'll keep Carla updated--I'm not sure I see her on here yet.

Would anyone like to come in after break to get materials ready? Just let me know if you're interested!

Thanks for all of the work!

Some ideas..

1) I agree w/ the pasta & bread idea.
2) Dessert: brownies or cupcakes?
3) Name-tags? I think that would be helpful for both the families and for us.
4) Games: group pictionary or we could break into smaller groups for board games (uno, yahtzee, apples to apples..etc.).
5) Activities: I think it would be fun to have a sheet of brain-teasers/riddles and the mentee, parents, and mentor had to all work together to solve them. Any other ideas of something the three of us could do together?
6) "Chief" - I love this game. Everyone sits in a circle, one person is chosen to leave the room (where they can't see or hear) and a "Chief" is chosen. His/her role is to lead the group in an assortment of movements (clapping, tapping your head, snapping..etc.) once everyone begins the movements, the person outside comes back and stands in the middle of the circle. Everyone watches the Chief and changes their movements according to what the Chief does. The person in the middle has 2/3 guesses on who the chief is. Then it's another person's turn!
7) Poem writing.. The mentee must write a poem for his/her parent and v.v.
8) TWISTER!

Let me know all of your thoughts.. I'm excited!

What we have so far...

Hello Mentors!
So far we have 3 mentors who would prefer March 25 and 2 that would prefer March 18. I will let you know how it turns out when I've heard from everyone.
So far people seem to like the idea of Spaghetti, which we've done at our other dinners! It is really easy and inexpensive, but it's also something that both kids and parents like to eat. What would you like to go with that? Salad? Rolls? What about dessert? What would everyone like to drink?
A games table is a definite possibility! I think that really gives people a chance to relax with their mentors and their families and do something they can all take part in. Also, Sarah had a great idea for a group activity! I think I've heard of a similar game called "Four on a Couch." Please keep the ideas for group activities, individual activities, sport, crafts, etc. coming, and we'll see what everyone seems to like.
I am going to tell Carla about this spot so we can get the other mentors involved in the discussion!
Keep the ideas coming!!!
Thanks!

Ideas

I like the idea of pasta it would be easy we could also get sauce and meatballs, maybe garlic bread to go with it. I had a good idea for a game to play. Its a little confusing to explain in writing but, Ill try to get the point across.
The game is played with just people and chairs fro each person placed in a circle. One person gets picked to be in first. they get up and go to the center of the circle. The pourpose of the game is to then keep this person from getting to the free chair by having each person shift over one chair before the person can get to it. If the person gets to a chair the last person in that chair then takes their place.
The good thing is you can play this game with an unlimited amount of people and its also fun and needs nothing but chairs. Tell me what you think and if you think it might be a fun activity or if my explination dosent make sense.

Getting Started!

Hello Everyone,
It's time to start planning the "Meet Your Mentor Dinner!" First, tell me which Friday works best fro you (March 11, 18, or 25) and then give at least one idea for a group of individual idea for people to take part in during the event. These activities will be optional, but it's nice to have something to offer the guests. For example, we had a paper airplane contest at the last couple of dinners. Also, what would you all like for dinner?

Just post your ideas or agree with others' ideas.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Happy Planning!
